1966 + 1976 Ford F-250 truck restoration and modification.
July 25th, 2007 Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »The “slick” will be a 1966 F-250 on the outside but sit on a 1976 F-250 4×4 (”HiBoy”) chassis.
Why?
- Better brakes : front disc, rear drum, 2 chamber master cylinder
- 4″ factory lift (that’s why they call them hi-boys!)
- Heavy duty leaf spring suspension
- Better rear-end gearing (4.10), 1966 was set up for towing with 4:35 gears
- Bonus 4wd (Dana 60HD rear, Dana44 open knuckle front)
- Sheet metal is a direct fit and the HiBoy and Slick both have FE engines
Modifications and upgrades:
- Conversion from C6 automatic to 4 speed manual NP435 transmission
- Upgrade of power steering to 1979 full power (1976 had “hydraulic assist” only)
- Replacement of full-time NP203 transfer case with part-time NP205 (divorced)
- Lots of engine mods (see the engine page…)
- Later model backup lights and wiring (not standard in ‘66)
