1966 Ford Truck Restoration and Modification

6: Miscellaneous Mechanicals

Completion of brakes, transmission, transfer case, cooling, and other miscellaneous items – next up is wiring and test fire.

NP435 4 speed manual transmission and NP205 transfer case tops and shifters installed – both were rebuilt – see earlier page. The ‘76 parts truck had an NP203 and a C6 automatic – the NP203 was parted out and proceeds used to buy a divorced NP205 from a separate truck. The C6 was traded for an NP435 that was in better shape than the one in the ‘66 which was also parted out.

Upgrade to 1978-1979 style power steering. The pittman arm just cleared – also had to trim a bit of the radiator core support. Power steering box is stock 1978-79, the frame was boxed at point of installation on inside and extra 1/4″ steel welded to outside for additional reinforcement. Four grade 8 bolts will keep it in place. Not pictured is 1978 steering arm attached to 1976 column – inside is a 1978 sport wheel.

Very nice set of new stainless steel brake lines from Inline Tube. Tried running and flaring my own but gave up – definitely worth the slight extra cost to get a pre-fitted set – they fit perfectly.

Rear Brake Lines

Radiator core support after some repairs, new fan and radiator. The core support and all the sheet metal will be from the ‘66.
