1: Disassembly and frame prep

The HiBoy had been sitting in a field for the last 10-20 years and had been a work truck before that so it made a great chassis donor – all sheetmetal was either rusted or dented beyond repair.

start.jpg Just getting started – the radiator, timing cover, oil pan, etc. had already been removed, as if someone had been trying to diagnose a problem before giving up – hmmm…

motor Mystery solved – broken snap ring allowed wrist pin to float into cylinder wall. Won’t be using this block…
frame Disassembly finished – down to the bare frame now, time to start the rebuild.
cleanframe Frame back from acid dipping and ready for some modifications:

  • New rear spring hangers (these tend to collect water and rust out).
  • Replacement of front cab mounts (using the ones from the Slick)
  • Replace rusted out rear crossmember brackets.
  • Boxing the front driver’s side frame for later install a ‘79 power steering box.
